SGS RED LIONS TAIPEI
SGS RED LIONS TAIPEI

"We are the Lions, We come from the sea!”

Actually, we don't really come from the sea at all, we come from Taipei City. Maybe less salty, maybe less appetizing but still with a great abundance of sharks fins and hot fish yoghurt! The SGS Red Lions are yet again touched and a mite stunned to be invited back for another stab at the Phuket Cup. This year we will begin as usual with the highest of expectation, ascending skyward to aspiration, spiralling into desperation before finally resulting in exasperation. Or maybe not! Our squad of late has been considerably strengthened by a rush of new blood - so who knows?
You should expect to see the following players of the beautiful game at the tournament:
Paddy O'Sullivan - captain and leader of men • Bill Murphy - veteran striker • Paul Smith - even more veteran defender • Steve Rice - Bronze Age defender • Allan Wallace - Scottish Terrier up front • Charles "Don't forget the parachute" Watson • Volker Nagel - Teutonic goalkeeper and forward • Mark Bird - fluttering down the wing • Patrick Janssen - Dutch Master • Aki - stalwart (if slightly eccentric) defender • Sako - J - League porn star • Simon Balnchard - fitness guru and wiley forward • Herman the Austrian - from just outside Vienna, but not actually from Vienna itself • Damian Jeume - exiled Lion now in Bangkok • Mark Davis - cool-headed full-back. Not forgetting the omnipresent Gerry Brown, chairman of the SGS Red Lions Supporter's Club (actually he's the only member), waterboy and general heckler of inexplicable Glaswegian expletives. Many thanks go to our sponsors, SGS Taiwan and My Other Place, for providing constant encouragement, inspiration and much-needed dosh. Also a hearty "Gan Bei!!" to the organizers here in Phuket for another wonderful weekend of footie. By the way, who is Spartacus?
