The
Scandinavian Vikings return to the '99 Phuket Cup with a goal to avenge their semi-final
loss last year. The Vikings are always tough at the beginning of the season so they should
be in top form for the Cup.
They return to Phuket with a virtual carbon copy of last year's team with the exception of
Trygve Magnusson who has escaped to play in the Brazil League. The Vikings have seen the
exodus from Bangkok of some of their players but they will come from near and far to be
with the team again.
Returning from Vietnam will be the always dangerous (not only on the field) Reto Senn who
can always put the ball into an open net. Also coming from Vietnam will be Stefan
"Tasmanian Devil" Carlsson who is a menace in the defense of the Vikings. New to
the team this year is halfback Nicolaj Ibsen who has shown brilliance in the mid-field and
is a threat to rack the back of the net. Up front will see the return of token Frenchman
Philippe Plenacoste along with forward/halfback Mauro Beck teaming up to cause heart
palpitations to the opposing defensive team. Rounding out the midfield will be Niclas
"Rabbit" Uddman (use your imagination), Erling "Darling" Pakula (no
imagination necessary) Ole Ole Petersen and Are "Take over where Trygve left
off" Nakkim. Paul Sheridan with his new pearly whites will be stalking the back line
along with Victor
"no mas" Quercia and Jens Bergsoe. Off the bench, senior players Kim Gronbeck
and Tim Real should help the average age of the team move up considerably and will add the
necessary maturity and speed the Vikings lack in the starting line up. And finally, no one
can forget the local bar keep, Totter who will assure that the Viking team alcohol level
is up to a significant levels in order to push the Vikings into the final and take the
Phuket Cup home with them this year. |
