The
"100 Pacer", is the name of a poisonous snake found in Taiwan. The snake is so
deadly; it is said that a man would be lucky to walk one hundred paces after being bitten
by one. Therefore, our club name is intended to reflect our ability to deftly and
accurately "strike down" our opponents. However many that have seen us play,
believe it actually refers to how far our older players can run.
The Pacers started kicking around almost eight years
ago, with our fists filled with beers and our boots filled with left feet. Over the last
three years we've retired our appropriately misspelled kits which read,
"Pecars," and become more organized, setting our sights on attending more
international events. Our current calendar sees us through 5-a-side and 11-a-side
tournaments, as well as a load of friendlies around Taiwan. We have also competed in the
6-a-side International Tournament in Manila for the last three years.
1999 has been a year of firsts for the 100 Pacers. We
made our debut appearance at The Bayon Challenge in Cambodia, and this will be our first
time playing in Phuket. Perhaps with some luck we can also win a tournament (or at least
find the back of the net).
The Pacers maintain a truly international roster of
players hailing from the U.K., Belgium, Ireland, Germany, Italy, U.S., Canada, Panama and
Singapore.
