Hans Lamers has spent 25 years appraising, buying, selling and
collecting beautiful art and furniture. He operated an antique business
in Northern Europe for over two decades until the beauty of Asian
antiquities brought him to Thailand.
He settled in Phuket and bought Thai Style Antique and Décor and
immediately expanded the 1000 square meter showroom by more than
doubling the space to accommodate his collection of Chinese and
Korean furniture.
Hans discovered there was a treasure of antique Oriental furniture
hidden in Chinese villages. He decided to choose the best pieces
he could find and refurbish them for his international clients.
"There are some stunning pieces of furniture in China. Unfortunately
most of it gets ruined by crude efforts to repair and restore it,"
explains Hans, "but I have found an excellent factory that
gives these old pieces new life.
I even have clients who come from China to buy from me in Phuket
because the pieces have been refurbished so expertly."
Not content with his vast storehouse of treasures which include
antique Buddha images, altars, ceramics, and bronzeware, Hans has
imported a beautiful collection of storage wardrobes, and tables
and chairs from India which are heavily influenced by British colonial
design. This is joined by teak furniture from Indonesia which has
Dutch influences.
"I am very excited by this new collection of furniture
as it is strong, beautiful and well built," comments
Hans. "They make any room look warsm and filled with
substance as they are made from teak wood which is hard and
durable."
A visit to Thai Style Antique and Décor is a visit to the
beauty of Asian art.
Located on the main road which connects the airport and Phuket
town, Hans will be happy to show you the treasures he has
collected for his discerning clients.
