"Children should have an opportunity to display their talents
in an elegant setting," according to choreographer and dancer
Katherine. Here in Phuket. children will definitely get that chance!
June is a very event-filled month for this already busy person
and her petite dancers. However, with this native Philadelphian's
passion for the art of dance, many Phuket parents are thankful that
she has settled here and given so much of her talent and time to
their children.
After choreographing shows for Charles Brown Entertainment and
training his dancers, Kathy decided four years ago to continue using
her dance training from the Philadelphia Dance Company and the San
Francisco Ballet Company, combined with her theatrical and teaching
skills, to open Katherine's School of Dance. More than 25 students
attend regularly with performances almost every month at various
hotels, schools and restaurants.
An Evening of the Arts for Children will be presented at Kata Beach
Resort on June18th , from 6pm until 7pm. There is no entrance fee
(however please be on time). The troupe plans to perform at Sala
Thai, in the lovely gardens adjacent to the beach. If the weather
does not permit an outside performance, Kanda Hall, 2nd floor will
be the venue.
Professionally made costumes, inclusive of silver sequinned and
beaded tiaras, enhance the frothy, pastel chiffon skirts for the
two classical ballet pieces, whilst shiny silver-and-black attire
fits nicely for the modern-dance piece (which includes three male
dancers).
To round off this dance evening, children enrolled in the traditional
Thai Dance Class at Dulwich International College will join together
with students playing traditional Thai musical instruments.
Kathy also finds time to teach adults aerobics, stretching and Tai
Bo (a combination of kick boxing and boxing).
