Emerald Blue, a 25 year old, 48 foot Spartman & Stevens ketch,
is one of the most beautiful boats that offers private charters
around Phuket.
In 1997, Nick and Marilyn Band sailed Emerald Blue across the Indian
Ocean visiting numerous islands including Sri Lanka, the Maldives,
Mauritius, the Comoros Islands, the Seychelles, Madagascar, Zanzibar
and ports of East Africa.
"The Emerald Blue is a comfortable, not luxury, boat. She
is an elegant boat and sails well. On our charters, we offer good
food and the chance to explore interesting places. We try to stay
away from marinas," he explained.
Nick Band is a man of the sea. He spent his early years sailing
with his father off the coast of Dominica in the Caribbean. He bought
his first boat, the 20 foot Vivacity, in the Seychelles and with
his new wife, Marilyn, sailed to Africa.
For more than twenty years, the couple have sailed between Africa
and Southeast Asia, Nick at the helm and Marilyn with pencils and
paints drawing the life of the various islands and peoples they
encounter. His livelihood from the sea has included running charters
but also searching for sunken treasure. He was part of a team that
found priceless Chinese porcelain under the water.
"I'm the happiest when at sea where the only thing that matters
is what is happening at that moment, the direction of the water,
the wind, the elements," comments Nick.
Emerald Blue is available for private charter. Guests can participate
in the fun of sailing as much or as little as they want. Nick offers
four or five day trips to Phang Nga Bay or the Similan Islands or
shorter charters if requested.
