Tucker Bishop graduated with a degree in architecture from the
University of Texas in Austin in 1974. "I was very excited
about the impact of modernism on design and building which stresses
the importance of function, the creative use of materials and natural
light," comments Tucker.
He was fortunate to study with the eminent architect, Michael Graves.
After graduation, he headed to San Francisco which was in the midst
of a cultural and building renaissance at the time.In 1990, Tucker
came to Thailand to further expand his interest in travel and design.
He settled in Phuket
and was later commissioned to supervise the construction of
aun authentic, Thai style home from the Central region for
a client who planned to move the extensive structure to a
site on the Big Island of Hawaii.
"I spent months researching every design aspect of traditional
Thai housing. I was particularly interested that no nails were used
in building which enabled owners to move these massive structures
when their rice fields were no longer productive," Tucker continues.
Currently, he is supervising the building of 11 villas at Baan
Kata.
Tucker plans to continue working in Thailand where there are lots
of opportunities to use his talents as an artist and architect.
