The art and science of reflexology or applying pressure to specific
points of the foot to cure or prevent disease is 5000 years old.
Records of foot therapies exist from cultures ranging from Egypt
to China. However, only in the past twenty years has international
interest in reflexology revived as an alternative therapy.
Reflexology is based on the premise that all nerve endings run
to the feet. A trained reflexologist can put pressure on different
meridiens or energy lines on the sole and side of the feet to determine
the cause of illness. By gently and gradually working with these
pressure points, better health is regained.
On Phuket, numerous reflexology centers have opened in the
past couple years but they all originate with a Chinese doctor who
migrated to Thailand from Macau some years ago and set up his practice
in Pattaya. Dr. Chin, in addition to giving treatments in reflexology,
began teaching the skill to interested Thai students.
One of his most avid learners was Khun Paisan Nakosiri who today
presides over Patong Foot Massage located inside Patong's Soi Sea
Dragon.
Khun Paisan is the local master of not only reflexology but he
looks at the entire body and how to improve or heal various systems
that are not working well. His grandfather was a Chinese herbalist
and the healing touch runs in the family.
Patong Foot Massage also offers head massage and shoulder and back
massage. All are priced at a fraction of what is charged in the
West. Reflexology is a great healing art to experience while on
holiday to Phuket as Khun Paisan has the healing touch.
