Phuket FantaSea calls itself the Ultimate Cultural Theme Park and
it is all of this and more. For the visitor to the island, Phuket
FantaSea offers the opportunity to explore the various regions of
Thailand through a show of light and sound, architecture, food and
entertainment. And the best part of Phuket FantaSea is a lot of
fun.
Set on 140 acres next to Kamala Beach, Phuket FantaSea has lots
to do for families or anyone wanting to spend an evening exploring
the shops and the outdoor festival of music and cultural performances
all at no charge. For those who want to enjoy a big international
buffet set in the Golden Kinnaree restaurant, admission is only
500 baht.

The restaurant can seat up to 4000 guests and itself is a piece
of art decorated as the legendary forest of the Himmaphan of Indian
legend brought to Thailand. Large mythical kinnarees, half woman
and half bird, have been sculpted into the walls which are covered
with murals from Thai legends. The colors are bright and lively
which is the perfect setting for the delicious food. But the centerpiece
for the cultural theme park is the Palace of the Elephants, which
looks like a Khmer temple complex, where each evening, the extravaganza,
Fantasy of a Kingdom, is performed.
It's impossible to say too many good things about this show. It
is probably the best entertainment value in Asia. Visitors enter
the pavillion into a lobby that looks like a real jungle before
being shown into the comfortable 1400 seat amphitheatre. Here the
walls have been made to resemble ancient temple ruins and an elegant
curtain acts as a screen onto which moving images of dense tropical
jungle accompanied by a soundtrack of exotic bird calls, relaxes
the guest.
When the curtain rises, a remarkable show begins with what seems
like a cast of hundreds all wearing stunning historical costumes
from the region.
Fantasy of a Kingdom was designed by international theatrical designers
to showcase nine different themes including Thai culture, magical
illusions, 4 dimensional in-theatre effects, aerial performances,
acrobatics, indoor pyrotechnics, special effects, an elephant circus
and stunts that are guaranteed to delight visitors regardless of
age or nationality.
The evening show gives guests the rare opportunity to watch a full
production of scenes from the Ramayana, the Indian epic legend loved
by Thais, where the Monkey King, Hanuman, fights for the return
of the kidnapped Sita. Usually performed on small stages, the magnificent
costumes and full battle choreography fills the stage.
The evening also includes regional dances of Thailand with an audio-visual
treat of the costumes and peoples who live in the four different
regions of the country. There's elephants performing tricks, a live
tiger running around, acrobats dropping from bungee cords from the
ceiling, magic acts with audience participation, battle scenes from
actual history when Phuket's women defended the island against attack
from Burmese pirates. The creators of Fantasy of a Kingdom have
created a show which has everything to keep the audience entralled.
After the show, visitors are invited to take photos with the elephants,
enjoy watching the dancers perform outdoors and visit the numerous
shops which sell either souvenirs or the fine arts and crafts of
Thailand. There's also time to watch musicians, have an after the
show drink, or visit Hanuman's Lair, which has carnival and video
games.
Phuket FantaSea offers world class entertainment and will be a
very memorable part of any vacation to the island.
