In this fascinating tropical paradise you will experience not one,
but a diversity of Asian cult ures in one single destination;a phenom-
enon we take pride in. From the people, to food, sights and sounds,
Malaysia is a unique melting pot in Asia.
Here you will discover a delightful f usion of three of Asia's
oldest civilisations. A geo-cult ural mix of Malay, Chinese and
Indian heritage that are made even more interesting by the assimilation
of other cult ures into the fabric of our society. Indigenous cult
ures of the Kadazans, Ibans and ethnic groups of Sabah and Sarawak
as well as the influence of the British, Port uguese, Dutch and
Thais enhance the blending of customs and traditions.
Colourful festivals and car- nivals are very much part and parcel
of the Malaysian lifestyle. Distinctly unique, each cult ure continues
to pre- serve traditions handed down through the generations;yet
all ethnic festivals and carnivals are quintessentially Malaysian.
One of the best ways to enjoy sunny and harmoni- ous Malaysia is
to join us in our festivals and carnivals.
To celebrate this distinctly Malay- sian heritage, a spectacular
parade bearing the theme "Citrawarna Malaysia " meaning
"Colours of Malaysia " will be held in Kuala Lumpur from
May 26 to June 23, 2002.
The parade is an event that will show- case the rich legacy of
arts, cult ure and tradition inherited from our forefa- thers in
all its pomp, colour and splen- dour. The mesmerising event, which
will be celebrated annually, combines the best of cult ural and
artistic mani- festations of the states and ethnic groups of Malaysia.
The parade, com- posed of various states and ethnic groups of Malaysia
in colourful cos- t umes, will feat ure traditional dances to the
melodious strains of traditional music.
People of all races, t ribes and ethnicity will come out in force
to pay tribute to their country and their heritage. Under- neath
it all, the same spirit burns in all our hearts of being Malaysian,
of being united in diversity, offering a unique form of hospitality.
This is tr uly Malay- sia. Come celebrate together with us!
